Consultation and
collection surveys

Survey work and consultation is carried out either in the workroom or on site. Full condition surveys can be tailored to the needs of individual textile objects or collections. 

Estimates include a condition report, proposals for treatment and costs. A charge is made for undertaking estimates on site.

We are able to advise on and implement preventive conservation measures for all types of textile object.

Exhibitions and display

All types of display work are undertaken including mounting costume and costume accessories and flat textiles of all dimensions. When necessary we liaise with display companies to provide more complex three dimensional mounts.  Framing and pressure mounting can be provided as required.

Conservation and documentation

Conservation comprises full documentation, cleaning and support of objects. Wet-cleaning of large and small objects is undertaken in the wash table or on our purpose built washing floor. Limited solvent cleaning can be undertaken for small and medium sized items. Support treatments include both adhered and stitched support techniques. Mounting for display and preparation for storage are often integral to the conservation. Comprehensive documentation of  conservation is supplied together with photographs before and after treatment.

Collaborative projects

Many objects present complex problems due to their composite nature.  In such cases  we seek advice and work with conservators from other disciplines to ensure successful treatment outcomes for all components.

Work On Site

If objects are too large or fragile to be moved we offer on-site work on a daily or weekly basis, as required.
